Research

The designs will highlight the student-led nature of the East LA walkouts, a protest in which students demanded equitable education, including college prep and culturally relevant courses. This movement wasn’t just about academic reform but also about Chicano pride, which we’ll reflect through the visual language of activist art from the 1960s.

Ideation

These stamps will be bold, expressive style of Chicano muralists and the raw, handmade quality of protest signage crafted during pivotal activist movements.

Visual Landscape

A bold palette inspired by the Mexican flag — rich reds, vibrant greens, and clean whites — serves as a visual tribute to Chicano identity and resilience. These core colors embody cultural pride, unity, and strength. Accents of marigold yellow introduce a layer of warmth and spiritual depth, evoking themes of remembrance, celebration, and ancestral reverence often associated with Día de los Muertos.
