Style History

The design incorporates generational motifs, including traditional floral embroidery often seen in Mexican textiles and clothing — reimagined here as symbols of growth, femininity, and familial pride. These florals serve as a visual language that connects the past with the present, carrying with them the beauty of ancestral knowledge and personal expression.

Purpose

I used the Vans silhouette to connect with a younger audience and highlight cultural representation. The design blends tradition and modernity, showing how generational heritage can fit into a contemporary shoe. Vans’ focus on sustainability also supports the project’s goal of creating meaningful, eco-conscious fashion.

Result

In the spirit of circular design, I took an old Vans shoe, disassembled it by melting the glue and carefully separating the seams. I then scanned the original pattern, recreated it using recycled materials, and sewed the new design together by hand—giving the shoe new life while honoring its original form.
